Johan Santana: New York Mets Pitcher Throws No-Hitter vs. St. Louis Cardinals

It’s about time.
The New York Mets have played over 8,000 games in their history and never produced a no-hitter…until Friday.
Johan Santana may have allowed five walks, but he didn’t surrender a single hit en route to the Mets' 8-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Citi Field.
Credit Mike Baxter with an assist for crashing into the left-field wall while making an outstanding catch in the seventh. He had to leave the game afterwards.
Despite sitting at 122 pitches after eight innings, Santana stayed in the game and didn’t disappoint. It was certainly a big risk considering he had never thrown over 125 pitches in a game and is coming off shoulder surgery. He finished with 134 pitches thrown.
But it was all worth it, as Santana will forever be etched into the Mets’ record books with the honor of being the first pitcher to throw a no-hitter in the 51-year history of the franchise.
