The Belmont Stakes are right around the corner and I'll Have Another has a chance to make history. He could be only the 12th horse in the United States to win a Triple Crown.

One factor that plays an important role in winning races is the slot in which the horse is racing.

Here is a look at the best post positions for I'll Have Another and the other race favorites.

No. 1 Slot

While a horse coming out of the first spot has not won since 1997, it is still a desirable spot. The winner has come out of the No. 1 slot a record 23 times.

No. 3 Slot

Last year's Belmont Stakes winner won out of the third post position. It has also produced 14 winners in the past. If I'll Have Another or any other race favorite doesn't get the No. 1 slot, they should be confident with the No. 2 slot.

No. 5 Slot

The No. 5 slot has had 13 winners at the Belmont Stakes and is a desirable position for any horse that is in contention to win.

No. 7 Slot

The seventh post position has seen 12 winners and has been a popular slot for the winner in recent years.

No. 12 Slot: Not a Favorable Slot

There has never been a winning horse to come out of the No. 12 slot at the Belmont Stakes.
