Spurs vs. Thunder: Kevin Durant Momentarily Takes Tim Duncan's Soul
Oklahoma City took this one in a route, and it all started with Kevin Durant attacking the basket. In the early stages, KD appeared a little too aspirational, as though he was trying to dunk the game itself.
Well, that ambition paid off when Durant went up against Old Man Timmy. The play revealed something great about both players, even if Duncan was on the wrong end of it.
In Duncan's defense, he's playing defense. This is the type of dunk Tim absorbs and keeps on trucking thereafter, unconcerned with embarrassment.
For Durant, well, obviously this was an awesome play at impact, but this is not what impressed me. I was more taken with his improved handle and subsequent ability to go coast-to-coast. The old KD was not so comfortable doing this. This year's improved iteration dribbles like a nimble guard.
What does it all mean for the future of this series? Nothing, nothing at all. But it was fun.
