Boston Celtics: It Is Time to Start Thinking About Next Year

0 of 7

The Celtics made a great run in the playoffs, but their run and season is coming to an end. If you think the Celtic's will come back against the Heat and make the NBA Finals, I love your confidence, but lets be honest, the Celtics don't have a chance.

In Game 2, the Celtics played perhaps their best game of the playoffs, and they still couldn't finish off the Heat, who are missing Chris Bosh. The loss of Avery Bradley definitely hurt and Ray Allen just isn't the same with his bone spurs.

If I were the C's, I would give E'twaun Moore some playing time to see if he can help their bench. But you never know, maybe and hopefully I am wrong about this and the Celtics will turn it around and shock the NBA. So here is my list of what I would do this off-season if I were Danny Ainge.

2012 NBA Draft: Who Should the Celtics Take?

1 of 7

The Celtics acquired a pick from the Clippers in the Perkins trade last year, so now they have two picks in the first round at number 21 and 22.

There could be many good options the Celtics have to choose from, but the question is, who should they choose? First, let me say that I love the idea of the Celtics trading up and grabbing someone like Terrence Jones or Tyler Zeller, but if Ainge decides not to make a move and stay put, here is a list of players that I would consider drafting: Quincy Miller, Arnette Moultrie, Marquis Teague, Tony Wroten, Meyers Leonard, and Moe Harkless.

I see mostly positives in all these players, but in players like Fab Melo and Royce White, I see negatives that could effect their career completely, so I wouldn't take a chance on them.

Do Not Re-Sign Ray Allen

2 of 7

I love Ray Allen, but it is time for him to hit the road. He is getting old and recent struggles have made me not want him on the Celtics even more. He is the best 3 point shooter in the history of the NBA, but with the emergence of Avery Bradley, we just don't really need Allen.

Besides, even if I did want him back, he probably wouldn't comeback because Bradley would be starting ahead of him and he can get a starting job for just about every other team. Sorry Ray, but you gotta go.

Re-Sign Kevin Garnett

3 of 7

Kevin Garnett has been great for the Celtics this postseason. He has been playing like he is 5 years younger and without him, the Celtics would not be where they are.

He is old, 36, but the Celtics need to sign him to a 1 or 2 year deal. I think he has at least 2 years left of playing at this level and with him locked up for 2 more years, things are looking good for the Celtics.

Re-Sign Bass, Hollins/Steimsma, Dooling

4 of 7

The Celtics have a lot of money going into the offseason. They could use this money to re-sign players and sign free agents. There are many players the Celtics could re-sign, but I would only stick with these players because I see them having an impact in the future.

Brandon Bass would be a great long term sign for the C's because he is young and he is only getting better. For Steimsma and Hollins, I would only sign one of them because we don't really need two centers coming off the bench.

Dooling has definitely shown up this postseason on the defensive side of the ball, so he could be a good backup for Rondo in the future.

Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox

5 of 7

Jeff Green's and Chris Wilcox' seasons both came to an end with heart issues. Chris Wilcox played most of the season, but Jeff Green didn't play at all, which is disappointing because of how important he was off the bench.

If we sign these guys, we would get solid bench players who would increase bench production and give our starters more rest.

Free Agents

6 of 7

With all the money the C's have going into the off-season, not only will they be able to re-sign players, but they will be able to sign impact players in free agency.

One player the C's should consider is OJ Mayo. This guy is a scorer. He is one of the best bench players in the league, and with him backing up Avery Bradley, we may have one of the best shooting guard duos in the league.

The other impact free-agent the Celtics should consider is JaVale McGee. This big man is a beast. He can rebound, he can run the floor, and he can just flat out play. He might not have the best IQ, but with KG and Pierce being able to teach him, he will be scary in the future.

Final Roster Prediction

7 of 7

Here is the roster for what I hope will be the 2012-2013 Boston Celtics. This roster would be amazing and would give the C's a better chance at winning Banner 18 (unless they somehow win that this year).

    PG: Rondo, Dooling

    SG: Bradley, Mayo

    SF: Pierce, Green, Miller

    PF: Garnett, Bass, Wilcox, Johnson

    C: McGee, Steimsma, Leonard
