The Three People To Watch at the Daytona 500...Who Will Win?

Logan Riley Contributor IFebruary 6, 2009

Going into Daytona, a lot of questions will be asked, will Jeff Gordon break his lengthy drought of victories at a place which has been overall good to him? Will Jimmie Johnson continue his domination of the Sprint Cup and claim his second Daytona 500? There are numerous people with a chance at the 500 but here are the key three.

  1. Ryan Newman- He won last year's 500 and if Newman wants regain some of his lost momentum from last season, now is the time.
  2. Dale Earnhardt Jr.- Jr. is a former winner of the 500 and with Jr. in a stable team this year, it could be the year Jr. regains his momentum.
  3. Jeff Gordon- A four time winner at Daytona, Jeff has hit a rut recently, however, Jeff has always gotten himself back on track as Jeff has been in a similar situation in 2000 that led to his bounce back in the series in 2001, odds are, Jeff will have his game face on at the 500.

I predict as always their will be a down to the wire race like the last two years. More than likely the race will be won by both white knuckle driving and the wit of the crew chief. A green-white-checkered is more than likely and the BIG ONE is  definitely going to happen.

Prediction: Jeff Gordon edges out Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch for the 2009 Daytona 500!
