Tiger Woods at Memorial Tournament 2012: Highlights, Updates and Review

Tiger Woods just won his 73rd PGA Tour event and ties Jack Nicklaus for second on the all-time list.
Tiger fought through a tough day on Saturday with 100 degree temperature, brisk winds and a difficult golf course.
Except for a stretch on the back nine on Saturday, Tiger Woods ball striking, distance control, and mental approach was impeccable.
He got a win earlier this year at the Arnold Palmer Invitational but his performance this week at the Memorial was reminiscent of the old Tiger.
He was in total control of every part of his game.
With three majors remaining in 2012 I would not bet against him winning at least one if not more.
We will be seeing a lot more of Tiger Woods.
Tiger shoots 67 and wins the Memorial for the Fifth Time

Tiger again splits the fairway at No. 18 but is well back and will have 175 yards to the green.
The pin at No. 18 is in its normal Sunday position on the left side of the green.
An approach shot to the middle of the green with soft draw will spin down to the hole and leave a make-able birdie putt.
His 9-iron was perfect. High draw to the back of the green and released back down the hill to the hole.
Tiger has provided high drama to the 2012 Memorial Golf Tournament.
Will he tie Jack Nicklaus' 73 PGA Tour events won?
Will he win his second event of 2012?
This should put him in a great place coming into the U. S. Open in two weeks at Olympic Club in San Francisco.
Tiger makes the 8' putt for birdie goes to -9, shoots 67, birdies three of last four holes.

His 190 yard 9-iron finds the green and.

Sabbatini found the bunker at No. 16.Missed his par putt, makes bogey and is now one back of Tiger Woods.
Hole No. 16 was completely renovated last year and is now a difficult par-3.
Tiger hit 8-iron downwind 205 yards over the green.
He has a very very difficult chip shot coming up.

Sabbatini missed the green in two at the par-5 No. 15 chips onto the green makes a two putt par now tied with Woods at -8.
Andres Romero just rolled in a birdie at No. 18 to post -7.
No. 15 is the last par-5 that Tiger will see today. He needs to make birdie at worst to have any chance of putting pressure on Sabbatini.
Tiger has had problems hitting the trees that border the right side of No. 15 the first three days. He finally hit a perfect drive at No. 15 and finds the middle of the fairway.
Will we see some Tiger magic?
Tiger's second shot found the green and he will have a 43' eagle putt at No. 15.
His eagle putt eased by the hole and he made the return putt for birdie to get to -7 and sole possession of second place.
Jonathan Byrd and Andres Romero are tied for second place two shots behind Rory Sabbatini.
Levin birdies No. 14 to join the group at -6.
The pin at the short par-4 No. 14 is in its traditional back right position.
Anything short or right will find the creek, long and left will find a bunker or long gnarlish rough.
Tiger hit the middle of the fairway and just sailed his sand-wedge a couple feet too far to catch the back spin and roll back to the hole.
He is faced with a very difficult steeply downhill chip shot.
Tiger hit a delicate little chip shot and just ran it by the edge of the hole.
Tiger makes the return putt stays at -6 two back.
Spencer Levin is falling back and making a mess of No. 13. He posts double-bogey and falls to -5.
Sabbatini makes par at No. 13. Is still the leader at -8.
Tiger hit another great drive at the par-4 No. 13.
He is in good position to hit his second at the flag.
Tiger hit his 174 yard approach shot to 27'.
He needs to start making something happen. Sabbatini is looking strong.
Tiger rolls a nice putt but has to settle for par at No. 13.
He remains -6 two back of Sabbatini.
Spencer Levin found the back bunker at No. 12 and left his sand shot in the long rough still leaving a tricky slick downhill chip to the pin.
Levin chipped on and has 6' left for bogey at No. 12. He makes his bogey falls back to -7.
Rory Sabbatini attacked the flag at No. 12 hitting a draw over the water and right at the flag. He only has 3' left for birdie and the possible lead.
Sabbatini makes his birdie and takes the lead at the Memorial -8.
The 180 yard par-3 No. 12 at Muirfield Village may just be the key hole in the battle between, Spencer Levin, Rory Sabbatini and Tiger Woods at the Memorial.
It is one of the scariest tee shots in all of golf. All carry over water to an extremely narrow green, guarded by bunkers front and back.
The green slopes steeply down to the water any shot back of the green has the threat of rolling through the green and into the water.
Tiger's 7-iron was tugged left but found the extreme left front of the green. He will have a challenging two putt to make par at No. 12.
He has an 80' putt for birdie up and over a ridge in the middle of the green.
He left about 5' short and will have to get that in to save par.
Tiger rams it into the back of the cup and remains two back at -6.
Rory Sabbatini made a birdie on No. 11 and moves to -7 one behind Spencer Levin who made a great up and down to save par at No. 11.
Levin and Sabbatini now have to play No. 12.
Tiger's 299 yard drive on the par-5 No. 11 found the fairway.
Tiger needs to capitalize on this par-5 and get back the shot he lost at No. 10.
Tiger chose to lay up at No. 11 and will have 109 yards to the pin.
He hit a beautifully controlled knock down wedge to within 7' for birdie.
Tiger missed the birdie putt at No. 11.
He is two back of Levin.
Spencer Levin found the fairway bunker at No. 10, hit the lip coming out and had to hit a 160 yard third into the green. He will have a 18' putt to save par and maintain a 3 shot lead.
Levin's two putt bogey at No. 10 moves him back to -8.
No. 12 is lurking. It may just decide the winner of the 2012 Memorial.
Tiger 293 yard driver has found yet another fairway from the tee at No. 10.
It is perfectly positioned to attack the pin.
Tiger looks very solid today. Completely under control and swinging with confidence and authority.
If he can keep is putter working on the back side it is going to be difficult for anyone to beat him today.
Tiger found the old double cross 7-iron from 176 yards. He pulled his second at No. 10 into the bunker left of the green.
His bunker shot comes up somewhat short and he will have a 13' putt to save par.
Tiger's par putt comes up short and right gives a bogey.
He falls back to -6 three behind Levin.
Rory Sabbatini bogeys No. 9 for front side 37 and -6.
Spencer Levin makes eight birdies and one bird for 35 and leads at -9.
Tiger has found the fairway at No. 9 and will have a wedge or 9-iron into the green.
Tiger was left with 155 yards down hill to the green guarded by a large pond.
He hit his iron to 35' for birdie.
His downhill left to right putt ran by the edge of the hole and he made his short par save.
Tiger shoots 33 on the front, stays at -7 and is two shots behind the leader Spencer Levin
Tiger pushed his 7-iron slightly right and found the right bunker short siding himself.
His bunker shot ran some 20' past the hole and he made his two putt bogey.
Back to -7 two shots back of Levin.

No 7 at Muirfield Village is the second of the two par-5's on the front nine and offers an excellent opportunity to pick another birdie for Woods.
Tiger hit a perfect drive into the fairway and has laced a 5-wood to within 32' for eagle.
An eagle would move Woods to -9 and tied for the lead with Levin.
Tiger's 32' eagle putt just slipped over the edge of the cup but it is his fourth birdie through 7 holes and he is only one shot back of Levin.

Levin has to be feeling the Big Cat prowling.
Tiger has found the fairway at No. 6 and his second shot with a 7-iron sails over the flag and will leave in a 20' birdie putt.
Rickie Fowler drove it into the left rough and was forced to lay up short of the water on his second shot.
He will have 96 yards left to the green. Fowler wedged it to 25' and will have that left for par.
Rickie was unable to make the par putt and adds another bogey to his ugly scorecard.
Tiger calmly rolls in his left to right down hill birdie and picks up his third birdie of the day and gets to within 2 shots of the leader, Spencer Levin.

No. 5 is the first par-5 the players will see on their round today.
Tiger's drive found the fairway at No. 5 and his second found the intermediate cut at the back of the green.
Tiger ran his third shot to 7' and made his birdie putt.
Tiger moves to -6 three back of Levin.
Fowler has his second shot to the right of the green he will have 26 yards to get up and down to get a birdie and turn his day around.
Rickie hit his chip to 4' and made his putt for birdie to get back to -3.

Tiger and Rickie now move to the 200 yard par-3 No. 4.
Tiger has struck another solid iron shot directly over the flag and will have a 22' putt for birdie.
Rickie Fowler has found the right green side bunker.
Tiger was able to two putt for his par.
Rickie hit his bunker shot to 8' but missed the putt another bogey for Fowler.
Tiger remains at -5 four shots back of Spencer Levin.

Tiger has split the fairway at No. 3 and flew a wedge shot right over the flag and will have a 20' putt for his second birdie of the day.
Rickie Fowler caught a tree off of he tee and had to try a low hooking shot to the green over water. Risky at best.
Fowler found the front green side bunker and splashed out to 5'. He missed his par save and still has a tough 5' putt for bogey, misses the bogey putt, and still has 3' for double-bogey which he made.
Tiger missed his downhill right to left putt and made par.
Tiger is still -5 in third alone.
Rickie falls to -3.

The final round is under way at Muirfield Village Golf Club and Spencer Levin has birdied his first hole to go to -9 for the tournament.
Levin has a one shot lead over Rory Sabbatini who made par on his first hole.
Tiger Woods has just birdied his second hole to go to -5 and four shots behind Levin.
Rickie Fowler is paired with Woods made birdie on the first but failed to get up and down from a bunker and made bogey on No. 2. He is tied with Woods at -5.
Rickie in all orange and Tiger with his traditional red shirt for Sunday are a contrast on the golf course.

Tiger Woods finished his third round at the Memorial with a 73.
He opened with a birdie on at the first and picked up another bird at the par-5 No. 7. That would be the only par-5 that he would birdie today.
His front nine scorecard was a flawless 34.
Things changed considerably as Tiger made the turn. A bogey at 10 another at the difficult par-3 No. 12 plus two more bogeys at 16 and 18 with only a lone birdie at No. 13 added up to a back nine 39.
Tiger was asked in his post round interview how he felt about his ball striking.
He answered, "I feel really good the way I am hitting the golf ball. the things we've been working on the last few tournaments I'm finally starting to do. This is the way I know I'm capable of hitting the golf ball. The beauty of it is I've been missing the golf ball in the correct spots, and that's when I know I have control of my game. You are not going to hit every shot perfect, but at least I miss it on the correct sides."
Tiger is also struggling with severe allergies this week and is obviously uncomfortable and lacking some energy.
If Tiger can find the swing and confident stroke that he demonstrated Thursday and Friday he can still be a factor tomorrow.
He is just four shots off of the leader Spencer Levin who has a history of blowing large leads on the last day. Remember the Waste Management Phoenix Open and Kyle Stanley?
Tiger will be paired with Rickie Fowler tomorrow who is one shot ahead of Tiger at -5.
That pairing should draw a large following.

He is not getting the ball in the hole and is not hitting his approach shots nearly as crisp as he has the first two days, but he is still in touch with the leaders and if he can just get a par at the last will have a chance to get his fifth Memorial Trophy.

With the pin tucked very near the front of the green Tiger left his approach short and it rolled back down the false front. He will have a chip shot up the hill to get up and down for his par.

His par putt would not fall and now he faces an uphill putt for bogey.

Tiger's tee shot at No. 17 found the bunker on the left side of the fairway.
He had 148 yards to the green with a big lip in his face.
Tiger hit one of those shots that only great athletes can pull off.
He hit the shot to 10' and will have a birdie opportunity.
He has made bogeys at No. 10, No. 12, and No. 16 and is +3 on his back nine thus far.
His putt slid by the left side of the hole. Another lost opportunity.
Tiger has had a ton of make-able birdie putts that have not found the bottom of the cup the last three days.
Spencer Levin made bogey from the back of the green at No. 16 and falls back to -8.

Hole No. 16 was redesigned in 2011 and is the most difficult hole at Muirfield Village.
It is playing 178 yards down wind today and Tiger is hitting a 9-iron.
His distance control is again perfect and will have a 19' birdie putt.
Tiger gunned his down hill putt 6' past the hole and will have to make it to save his par.
3-putt bogey at No. 16 for Woods.
Moves him back to -5 and T-3 with Fowler.
Tiger fanned his drive right into the trees at No. 15

No. 15 at Muirfield Village is a narrow alley between the trees and the fairway is humped like the Loch Ness Monster.
The correct tee shot finds the flat of the fairway some 280 yards out. That will leave a 230 yard carry to a plateau green. Easy right?
Tiger's drive at No. 15 hit a tree in the right rough and went backwards netting only 204 yards.
He was able to hit a low iron from the deep gnarly rough and get back into the fairway with a 155 yards left to the green.
His third was perfect for distance, found the green but he will have a 29' curling putt for birdie.
His birdie putt scared the hole but in the end its another par for Tiger.

Tiger hit a great lay up on the short par-4 No. 14. He is aligned on the right side of the fairway with a perfect line to the front pin placement.
His second shot of 95 yards ended up 9' from the hole and another birdie opportunity for Tiger.
Tiger's first putt was a bit too firm and its just another par at No. 14 for Woods.
Rickie Fowler has posted 35-34=69 is at -5 and currently in T-4.
