Even in the wake of BountyGate and the suspensions that resulted from that scandal, the New Orleans Saints still have the responsibility of assembling a football team for 2012. Like other teams, they've held their Offseason Team Activities (OTAs) and offered a de facto preview of players fighting for starting jobs or even roster spots.
One curious position for the Saints is running back. Depth at that position is never a bad thing, providing that such depth isn't cost-prohibitive. The effective tandem of Darren Sproles and Mark Ingram marginalizes the benefit of carrying four RBs on the roster. Does that spell trouble for backups Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory?
Another debate stems from the weakside linebacker position, where two newcomers will fight for a starting job. David Hawthorne signed a long-term deal with the Saints in April, but some think that Chris Chamberlain (a Steve Spagnuolo carryover from the Rams) might give Hawthorne a run for his money.
