The 2012 campaign is over, but Chelsea continue to score when it matters most.
According to Goal.com, the recently crowned UEFA Champions League champions have earned the signature of coveted Belgian playmaker and reigning two-time UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Year Eden Hazard.
UPDATE: Monday, May 28 -- 3:55 PM ET
No more reports, no more speculation, this comes straight from the man himself. Eden Hazard has just announced that he'll be signing with Chelsea via Twitter:
I'm signing for the champion's league winner.— Eden hazard (@hazardeden10) May 28, 2012
Score one for the West London club as they look to climb back to the top English table and defend their Champions League crown next season.
The £32 million-rated Lille attacker is understood to have agreed personal terms with the Blues and is likely to sign for the Stamford Bridge club this week. ... “It’s a done deal,” a source told Goal.com. “Hazard has made his choice and he will play for Chelsea next season.”
It remains to be seen who'll be his manager, but the Blues just became infinitely more dangerous regardless of who is on the sideline.
Did Hazard make the right move?
Hazard has long been looking for a chance to regularly play in the Champions League, and Chelsea have proven they can offer just that.
With Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou on the way out, the Blues are in the market for new playmakers in the attacking third, and Hazard fills a big part of that need.
The Belgian scored 22 goals and assisted on 16 more across all competitions.
Expect him to factor in immediately in a midfield that includes Juan Mata, Frank Lampard and Ramires.
