The LSU Tiger basketball team continued its winning streak with an 80-62 victory over the lowly Georgia Bulldogs Wednesday in Athens. LSU was favored in this game as Georgia hasn't won a game in 2009, with their last win coming against Kennesaw state on Jan. 31st.
The game started out tight with the LSU leading 12-10 early, but as the game went on LSU would get up to a 35-21 lead late in the first half. After that, Georgia went on a 10-0 run to end the half abd put the game within reach with a halftime score of 35-31 LSU leading.
Marcus Thronton and Tasmin Mitchell were high point men in that half for the Tigers. They also combined to score LSU's first 24 points.
During the second half, LSU had the game mainly in hand. They were able to to get through the second half. Though LSU started to get into foul trouble, they kept playing good defense, and caused the Georgia Bulldogs to only have 62 total points.
The high points of the game were when Marcus Thornton and Tasmin Mitchell were able to combine for 57 of LSU's 80 points. Marcus was able to go a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line and 3-5 from three point territory. Tasmin just did what he did best: shooting mid-range jumpers and putting up a baby hook in the paint.
LSU made sure that they played hard defense and lights out offense to not become Georgia's first SEC win. After the loss to Alabama, LSU has been able to win six straight games, and LSU also has a chance at revenge against Alabama. They will look to make up for that 65-59 loss at Alabama on Jan.11th.
The LSU vs. Alabama game will be a noon tip-off on Sunday. The game will be displayed on Raycom. I hope that the Tigers can get their seventh straight win.
