Chelsea: José Mourinho's Shoes Too Big for Avram Grant

Saturday night is one of the few nights’ avid soccer fans look forward to and I am no exception.

Last Saturday night was not like any other though, especially after being forced to watch the Chelsea-West Ham game. I had never really watched Chelsea play after Avram Grant took over especially after their loss to Manchester United.

I was quite bemused at the managerial capabilities of Grant.

Now we all know about Grant’s shocked take-over from José Mourinho. He has previously only coached the Israeli national team on a professional level and in doing that his team failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup. He has had close to no experience in league football and I have no idea what makes him think that he can handle one of the top teams in the English Premier League!

Grant did not fulfill the contractual obligation as a Chelsea manager on the weekend.

The team was all over the place, I did not see the aggressive tactics Chelsea is famous to deploy but in fact the team to be in total disarray. The only reason they won the game was because of player ability and flair, and I honestly think this is what the team has been doing since the take-over. The way Chelsea played was comparable to the level of football we play at the local club, its absolute child’s play in comparison to the top teams.

I reckon Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich is trying to make his childhood dream come true, to own a soccer team with the best players in the world.

Sounds to me like Mr. Abramovich is playing a real life edition of Football Manager, where he will do whatever he can in his power to buy the best player for no purpose just because he wants to and has the money to do it. Grant is a merely a puppet working under the order of “Almighty Abramovich,” bending everyway that Abramovich wants him to bend. Grant only got the job because he had personal affiliation with Abramovich, come on we all know Grant is clueless.

José, on the other hand needs no praise, he is a talented manager with the experience from his Porto days.

Although I am a Manchester United fan, I have a lot of respect and admiration for José. I had been secretly hoping that Sir Alex would announce his retirement and United would look to José to take over, now that would have been a lethal concoction. José has now threatened Chelsea in the next Champions League.

I say go get ‘em you legend.

As for Grant, I think he should return to coaching his home town team Hapoel Petah Tikva and leave managing to the grown ups.
