"Dayton at Bat!" To Feature Artifacts from National and Local Teams

Dayton at Bat! will include a historical and photographic exhibition, lectures, panel discussions, and vintage base ball matches. The entire schedule of events will run from Feb. 10 the June 14.

This first offering is an exhibit of photography featuring minor league baseball. The Roger Freeman exhibit opens Feb. 10.

Si Burick and Miriam Jacobs Exhibition

The Si Burick collection contains the sportswriter's materials from his long career in the Dayton press.

It contains his manuscripts for two books and dozens of scrapbooks of his columns and articles, as well as mementos of his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The highlight, however, is a unique ball autographed by Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, and Sadaharu Oh. The trio hit 2,337 career home runs. The exhibition will be in the gallery on the first floor of the Roesch Library. It opens Saturday, Feb. 15.

Si Burick and Miriam Jacobs Exhibition

Miriam Jacobs was a life-long Dayton resident that collected all manner of baseball memorabilia. Her collection of pre-1963 cards numbers in the thousands.

The exhibit will also feature 18 of her autographed baseballs, including those signed by Babe Ruth, Bob Gibson, Willie Mays, Stan Musial, Roger Clemens, and President Woodrow Wilson.

She also collected a vast library of contemporary and historic books on baseball, including this catalog and rule book.

Big Red Machine History

Team historian Greg Rhodes will discuss the Big Red Machine on Apr. 19 at 2 PM. This event will be in the UD Roesch Library Reference Room.

Baseball's Biggest Scandals with Matthew Shank

University of Dayton Dean and business of baseball historian Matthew Shank will lecture on the Black Sox, Pete Rose, and baseball's biggest scandals on 1:30 PM, May 3. The discussion will take place in UD Roesch Library Reference Room.

Vintage Base Ball Games

On May 3 and June 14, the Clodbuster Base Ball Club will host exhibitions of the vintage game. The opponent on May 3 at 2:30 will be local media members and UD personalities.

On June 14 at 3 PM, UD baseball alumni will challenge the Clodbusters. Spectators will learn how the game develop as well as watch a high-scoring and competitive demonstration of hitting and fielding.

These matches will be on UD's Baujan Field.
