Brad Wilkerson, Boston Red Sox Agree To Deal—Why?

Gregory PearsollContributor IFebruary 4, 2009

Former Blue Jay OF/1B Brad Wilkerson signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox.

In Toronto, he hit .220 with four home runs and 28 RBI.  He did nothing to help the Jays' cause. He was a waste of roster space—just like Kevin Mench, who signed in Japan.

Best of luck to him. Mark Kotsay is far ahead of him on the depth chart, making any chance of Wilkerson making the team remote.

Why didn't they try to bring back Hinske, who signed with Pittsburgh? It would have worked better for the Sox.
