Buoyed by the internet rumors dogging him all winter, second baseman Brian Roberts showed up in Tucson for the Cubs' game against the D-Backs on Wednesday in full Chicago Cubs uniform.
He said, “I think I was traded to the Cubs yesterday. Or maybe not. Either way, it’s inevitable so I figured I might as well get started.”
Cubs GM Jim Hendry was both excited to see Roberts yet perplexed as to who he’d send over to the Orioles' camp in return.
“I don’t know how this happened or who I may have traded, but I’d better act quickly before they realize what has happened,” Hendry said.
Soon after, Hendry was seen sending Eric Patterson and Sean Gallagher on a bus to the Orioles' camp.
Later in the day, Hendry was seen sneaking around Red Sox camp talking to Coco Crisp, though no one knows for sure what that was about.

I'm guessing this is a joke...at least at this point. Who's the moron writing for this site? This isn't The Onion...get a clue, dude.

What's wrong with a little levity? Sports ain't life & death subject, we forget that sometimes. So yes it is ficticious, I thought the prose was obvious. I've written quite a few articles for BleacherReport in a short period of time, some of them fairly serious (Watching Sports can be Deadly, for ex) and just wanted to try my hand at humor. If it didn't work, I'm sorry for wasting your time. But if you're in chicago, like me, you hear about this trade every single day and it's getting old.

No prob, Bob. I am a huge Cub fan, too...so, I'm in the same boat...waiting every day...searching Google News for any new info on the trade...and then I came across this link...that's what upset me. Again, sorry if I overreacted. Believe me, I'm hoping it happens, too. Peace.

We'd better hope it happens because right now, as constructed, the Cubs aren't much better than last year and while that may be good enough to win the division, it won't be enough to win in the playoffs and world series, which should be our goal, despite not having been there is so long. I like Fukudome, but having Roberts at the top of the lineup would allow us to move Soriano down and then we'd have a true leadoff hitter. I'm still not sold on the pitching, but at least our offense would be solid.

The funny thing is... Roberts was not in the O's line-up yesterday, and he appears to be missing again today. Kind of odd, huh?

I swear I didn't take him, John. Really this was all a joke. Or was it?

I agree Bob...Roberts would be the difference maker that the team needs.

Yep, we need Brian Roberts. High OBP, a little power, good hitter, steals bases and plays good defense. Nothing not to like. And with DeRosa's heart scare, you never know. Anyway, he could still get 400 AB's as a super sub.

Sorry to scare you but it seems like the O's are in rebuilding mode so I think it owuld make sense to trade Roberts if they can get 3 or 4 useful young players.

Bob -
This is my first visit to this site.
Great "fictitious" article!
Though, maybe it will yet come true.
By the way - I think it's great that you reply to each comment.

I try to, though I must admit sometimes it's not practical.
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.
