LSU Football: Hayden Rettig Continues Wave of SEC QB Commitments

In the last seven days, we have seen Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas all get commitments from big-time pro-style quarterback prospects for the 2013 class.

Apparently LSU was feeling a bit left out, and decided to join the quarterback commitment parade.

According to Shea Dixon of TigerSportsDigest and FOXSports.com, Hayden Rettig has committed to play football in Baton Rouge in 2013.

Rettig is a 6'4", 210-pound pro-style quarterback out of Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, and is rated as a 4-star prospect by Scout.com. Rettig held offers from several schools, most of which were closer to home, according to Dixon.

It's a big commitment for the Tigers. Presumed starter Zach Mettenberger is a junior in 2012, which will give Rettig the opportunity to redshirt, and conceivably contend for playing time as a redshirt freshman in 2014.

Like Mettenberger, Rettig has a big arm and is capable of stretching the field. Considering all of the young talent that LSU has at the running back position, establishing the threat of the downfield pass is all that LSU quarterbacks need to do for the team to be successful.

LSU's quarterback position has been in a state of flux ever since Ryan Perrilloux was dismissed prior to the 2008 season. Mettenberger was brought in from junior college to fix that, and apparently Rettig is the next in line for the Tigers.
