Lance Stephenson, NY High School Basketball Star, Visits Maryland Terrapins

C.J. WatsonCorrespondent IFebruary 3, 2009

There was a special guest in attendance at the University of Maryland's home game against Miami (FL) at the Comcast Center last Saturday.

The guest was Abraham Lincoln High School's (Brooklyn, NY) senior five-star recruit Lance Stephenson, who decided to make an official visit to the University of Maryland.

The visit came as a big surprise since in the past few weeks Maryland was not mentioned in the list of schools he was considering.

The school list includes St. John’s, Memphis, USC, and Kansas. One thing on the Terrapins' side might be that his high school teammate James Padgett signed with the team in the fall.

Stephenson is currently averaging 32.5 points and 11.6 rebounds per game for the Railsplitters.

The recruitment of Stephenson will continue to be a long and drawn out process for the destined "one and done player" at the college level in 2009.

It should be interesting over the next few months to see if any more surprise schools show up on his radar.
