After having a disappointing English Premier League campaign (finishing sixth) expect Chelsea to be right in the thick of contention next season.

Winning the 2012 UEFA Champions League will give Chelsea the necessary confidence going forward into the 2012-13 season.

How could you not feel confident after being deemed European club champions? I mean, it's never happened for a football club in London.

That's pretty special.

Besides, Chelsea played awful in the Premier League yet defeated Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the semifinals and finals of the most prestigious soccer tournament in the world not named the World Cup.

Chelsea's confidence should be through the roof.

Also, finishing sixth in the Premier League is absolutely unacceptable. They will make some moves this offseason, but they must minimal changes because they are almost where they want to be.

It might not seem like that given how poorly they performed in the season, but they have a completely different coach for a great portion of the year.

Roberto Di Matteo needs to be re-signed because of the job he did in the situation he entered. Obviously, keeping Didier Drogba would be ideal, too.

But the changes, as in bringing people in, should be minimal. Keep Di Matteo and Drogba, add a player here or there and they will be set for another run at titles next year.

This current squad is full of confidence after their thrilling Champions League victory. With a full year of Di Matteo and a couple more personnel changes, Chelsea will be back on top of the EPL mountain in 2012-13.
