In one of the hardest-fought victories we have seen in recent years, I'll Have Another was crowned winner at the 2012 Preakness in what was a photo finish for the top-notch talent in the sport.
What made the win so memorable was that Bodemeister had held a significant lead going into the final stretch of the race. Arguably one of the top horses, it was surprising to see the lead disappear as quickly as it did.
I'll Have Another, led by rider Mario Gutierrez, would go on to do as he did at the 2012 Kentucky Derby—come up big in the clutch. To make as significant a comeback as this horse did against one of the premier horses in Bodemeister was a clear indicator at just how good this horse is.
With the Kentucky Derby and now Preakness under his belt, Gutierrez and the training staff now will prepare I'll Have Another for the Belmont Stakes and a chance at winning the Triple Crown.
There is no question that the Belmont is the most challenging of the three races. I'll Have Another and his crew will certainly have to put in major training to come out on top.
Yet in what was a finish fans have to appreciate, I'll Have Another came out victorious in the Preakness.
