Preakness Stakes Winner 2012: Triple Crown Odds for I'll Have Another
OK, I'm done doubting this horse. I'll Have Another proved neither track distance, nor post position could stop him in his pursuit for the second leg of the Triple Crown, and now he has a legitimate shot at horse racing's ultimate prize.
He chased down Bodemeister for the second time this month to capture the 2012 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. If this horse had a theme song it would be Kanye West and Jay-Z's "Who Gon Stop Me," because his closing ability is uncanny.
Check out his awesome performance:
Going into the Belmont Stakes on June 9, this horse has earned some love from oddsmakers.
He was a 15-1 underdog at the Kentucky Derby and as the horses entered the gates Saturday at Pimlico, he was at 3-1. He has proven his ability to win the races of intermediate length, as well as the shorter distance.
Should I'll Have Another be the favorite at Belmont Stakes?
He has also won while running from an outside post position, as well as an inside spot. The Belmont Stakes is the longest of all, but if you're looking at the way I'll Have Another performed at Churchill Downs and now at Pimlico, it appears the longer run may yield the best performance yet.
He seems to hit his stride late, and jockey Mario Gutierrez has an excellent feel for the horse. He appears to know the perfect time to push him; most importantly, I'll Have Another responds to the push.
He has beaten Bodemeister, who is a fine horse, twice already. If Bodemeister runs at the Belmont, who is to say I'll Have Another won't beat him—and the rest of the field—one more time?
UPDATE: Bodemeister will reportedly not run at the Belmont, according to the Associated Press.
I won't be the doubter, he's proven me and millions more wrong twice already. He has to be the favorite at the Belmont Stakes.
Do you believe in him yet?
