LSU or USC: Who Deserves to Be the Country's Pre-Season No. 1 Team?

Michael Felder@InTheBleachersNational CFB Lead WriterMay 17, 2012

Entering the 2012 season there are two teams on everyone’s list at or near the top; LSU and USC. The Tigers enter 2012 coming off of the greatest, yet most disappointing, 2011 campaign of any team. LSU went 13-0 through the regular season, won the SEC Championship but all of the positives did not wipe away the disappointment of getting embarrassed in the BCS Championship Game by Alabama. This year new quarterback Zach Mettenberger takes the reins in an effort to get LSU their third national title of the BCS era.

However, LSU is not the only team that’s hungry. Lane Kiffin’s USC Trojans have had two years of sitting at home during bowl season, just stewing, and now they are itching to show the world just how good they are. Matt Barkley returns as the crown jewel of a supremely talented roster that hopes to navigate their schedule right into a BCS Championship.

So we’ve got LSU and USC: which team should enter the season as the nation’s top ranked program?
