Why Steven Jackson Is Not Your Typical Jock

At 6’2” and 235 pounds, you don’t find many running backs of Steven Jackson’s stature on or off the field.

On the field, “SJax” is a bruising running back who shows amazing finesse with his lightning-quick moves. He runs the ball with great power, but is equally as comfortable catching the ball out of the backfield.

When it comes to top running backs of the last 10 years, Jackson’s name doesn’t roll off the tongue. Why? Perhaps it’s because he’s played in relative obscurity for pretty bad teams in St. Louis.

Jackson has slowly become an iconic figure in the St. Louis area. In 2010, he surpassed Eric Dickerson as the Rams all-time leading rusher. Last year, he rushed for over a thousand yards for the seventh-straight season.

SJax has been the subject of some trade rumors this offseason. Not to mention, the Rams drafted running back Isaiah Pead in the second round.

Through it all, the Vegas native has stayed classy. He finds peace off the field, as he is known as a renaissance man.

For starters, Jackson is a world traveler. He usually visits exotic locations by himself with a translator. He’s posed in the buff for ESPN The Magazine.  He loves fashion and style. And he has directed his own films.

It’s safe to say he’s not your typical jock.
