Cervelo TestTeam's aggressive tactics in today's Stage Two of the Tour of Qatar paid off with a stage win by their man, Roger Hammond.
As expected, blustery winds were the racer's main enemy throughout the day as a large group of 14 riders set off, including pre-race favorite Tom Boonen (QuickStep), teammates Steven De Jongh and Kevin Hulsmans, and six riders from Cervelo.
With the majority of its team in the main breakaway, Cervelo split the peloton and drove on hard to put pain into their competition. With attack after attack coming from the Cervelo team, Boonen was put into difficulty and unable to shake his competition.
Putting in the final attack for Cervelo, Roger Hammond capitalized on his team's dominant tactics and made his escape with three kilometers to go. Team Katusha's Danilo Napolitano used the work of Cervelo to help get a second place, and Hammond's teammate Heinrich Haussler got third. Boonen came in fourth.
With the results of today's stage, Cervelo TestTeam takes over all jerseys, with Hammond earning the overall and points jerseys and Haussler getting the young rider's jersey.
