Dave's College Basketball Picks, Jan. 31: Northern Iowa at Indiana State

dave darbySenior Analyst IJanuary 30, 2009

Northern Iowa (15-6, 9-1) at Indiana State (4-17, 2-8)

Line: Northern Iowa -5

Northern Iowa got win number nine in a row on Wednesday, defeating Illinois State 59-55. The Panthers still have a two game lead over Bradley in the Missouri Valley standings, with the lone blemish on the otherwise perfect conference record coming at home to these same Indiana State Sycamores 84-85 in double overtime way back on December 28.

Indiana State suffered its 5th straight loss on Tuesday on the road against Creighton. Down just one at half time, poor shooting and shoddy ball handling turned the game into a 73-62 Blue Jay victory. Not much has gone right for the Indiana State this year. In the Missouri Valley cellar, the Sycamores also rank last in offensive scoring and defensive scoring allowed.

Northern Iowa is 9-8 ATS including 5-4 on the road

Indiana State is 7-12 ATS including 5-5 at home

Indiana State is 7-3 ATS against Northern Iowa in their last 10 match ups

Don’t think the Panthers don’t hold a grudge against Indiana State for beating them a month ago. Normally a team 9-1 and holding a 2 game first place lead would be in for a letdown against the last place team. Not here. Northern Iowa gets their revenge.

Dave’s Pick: Northern Iowa -5
