According to reports on Fox Sports and ESPN, Brett Favre has informed the Green Bay Packers that he will not return for another season. Chris Mortensen of ESPN confirmed this report after speaking with Favre's agent.
Brett Favre has confirmed his decision in a lengthy voice mail to Mortensen saying that he made his because he "felt worn down by the demands of the game".
Speculation continues as many believe he is retiring based on the Packers failure to sign Randy Moss. Whether this is true or not, the focus should be on his illustrious career, not his reasons for retiring. 17 years as a starting quarterback in the NFL is taxing both mentally and physically. His decision is somewhat surprising, but not one that should be really questioned.
As a Chicago Bears fan, I must admit that it is a sad day and the end of an era. Brett Favre showed a competitive fire that we may never see in the game again. He was a tough, hard-nosed, class act.

Great that he's going out on a high note (from a season standpoint at least), but on the flip side, it's hard to argue that he wouldn't have another great chance to get back to the Super Bowl this year.
But remember, this is Brett Favre...and no decision he makes is ever really final.

Wow, and after such a great season... Brett really did go out on top. He lost a close game to the eventual Super Bowl Champions. He was my MVP this year. 2007 was an exclamation point on his Hall of Fame career.
He will be missed!

For everyone that doubtted him, look at the career he had, he is arguably the best quarterback to step on a field. Set every record, with a broken thumb, a sprained ankle, he has done it all. Played over 250 consecutive games, only a punter has done that, the punter maybe gets hit twice a seasons, Favre, about 8-10... a game.
Brett you will be missed, but see you in Canton in a couple of years.

If the Moss angle is the ending of a historic career is a little sour
