Is Amani Toomer sincere about not wanting to play for the Giants? I think he is just rolling the dice—hoping the Giants will give him what he wants. At 34 years of age, he is not the same player he was five years ago. He says the Giants don't want him. I think the Giants want him, but they also know he is not as young as Steve Smith and Domenik Hixon, who have more stamina.
Toomer is unhappy because of his diminished role. Well, that's what happens when you hit age 34 in today's NFL. Amani is in denial about his love for the Giants. He is the all-time leader in catches for the Giants, and that is something he may not want to walk away from. Unproductive talks—when you break those down, Amani meant he wants more.
Amani has had a great 13-year run with the Giants, and I think he wants to stay there. He wants to get a deal done with the Giants, seeing he is a free agent.
Amani knows that if he were to leave the Giants, he won't be able to add to his Giants record of 9,497 yards. That is something for him to think about. I don't think the Giants phased him out—they don't want to burn him out. He is not as young as he used to be. Some people say Amani is bitter—I don't think so. He just wants to be on the field more often.
Even if his playing time is cut in half, I think Amani has a lot to offer to the Giants. I would not like to see him leave New York. Roll the dice Amani, and may it land on eight and one for you.
