Who Will Replace Michael Floyd as Notre Dame's Game-Breaking Offensive Threat?

Michael Felder@InTheBleachersNational CFB Lead WriterMay 3, 2012

Notre Dame enters the 2012 season with a huge question mark hanging over the quarterback position. With the recent news of the Tommy Rees' arrest, it might boil down to Everett Golson or Andrew Hendrix throwing the football for the Fighting Irish.

However, the quarterback is not the only question mark. Once Brian Kelly determines who will be throwing the ball, he also has to look at who they will be throwing it to.

Michael Floyd is gone for the Irish, and that leaves a host of receivers that were merely bit players a season ago. Players like Robby Toma, TJ Jones and John Goodman will have to step up to become the lead threat on the edge. Thankfully, the Irish have two pieces that will help these young receivers make the transition. Cierre Wood at the running back spot will be the keystone of this offense, and Tyler Eifert, the stand out tight end, is going to be picking up the role of the key receiver.

Replacing Floyd will be a tough task, but with a tight end as good as Eifert in the fold, the wide receivers will not be asked to equal Michael Floyd's production.
