NFL's Best? Can Any Other Wide Receiver Touch Calvin Johnson?
Three other receivers caught more balls than Detriot Lions wideout Calvin Johnson did in 2011, but nobody amassed more yardage. Megatron had 1,681 receiving yards last season, to be exact. It was the first time since 2003 that a wide receiver averaged over 100 yards a game. That is nuts.
Johnson is one of the league's most dynamic players, a clear difference-maker. Fine, I'll say it: He's a game-changer. He can go deep. He can find the ball in the red zone, and he can make triple coverage look like a spaghetti sieve. There's no such thing as unstoppable in the NFL, but man, Calvin Johnson comes really close.
The only other guy in the league that has the potential to be as dominant, in my view, is Arizona Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald. Despite quarterbacking issues in Arizona last year, Fitzgerald still managed 1,411 yards, his second-best single-season receiving total ever. Does Fitzgerald, who helped lead his team to a Super Bowl in 2008, hold a candle to the young Johnson?
Dan Levy and I kick this can around for as long as we can. Leave us your thoughts on who the NFL's most explosive wide receiver might be in the comments, whether we've mentioned him in our video or otherwise.
