Little Nate Will Be Big Part of Knicks Success Or Failure
As the Knicks have begun to gain momentum over the recent weeks, it has become increasingly apparent that the key to the Knicks' ignition is Nate Robinson. On Wednesday night, little Nate scored 20 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter; however, it was his energy that was the key contributor in the win.
Throughout crunch time of the game Wednesday night, Nate had a spud worthy alley oop from Duhon, coupled with multiple dives at loose balls that are a testament to the new found energy the Knicks bring night in and night out. This energy has been missing for the last four years.
However, this year, Nate has learned to control his game, allowing himself more high percentage shots and more opportunities to drive the lane. He is no longer "a circus act," and is proving himself as to why the Knicks need to shell out some money this offseason in order to keep him.
Nate's game is undoubtedly erratic, but his energy is constant. No matter what can be said about his post dunk antics, his temper tantrums, or his mood swings, he provides the Knicks with an oakleyesque injection of energy. When little Nate is on his game, his contributions to the Knicks can not be understated. The players, the coaches, and especially the garden feed off of him.
Will he ever be a 20 PPG guy? No. Will he ever carry a team on his back through the playoffs? No. But he is showing that his unique style of energy makes his teammates better. Although he needs more than a little fine tuning to be a legitimate piece to a championship puzzle (say, in 2010?), he is valuable to the team camaraderie. Some players may not love him, but he is a guy they would go to war with.
