An anonymous source revealed in USA Today on Thursday that Commissioner Selig has ordered Giambi to cooperate with George Mitchell's steroid investigation or face suspension over his admission to using "that stuff" in an interview published May 18th.
Here's what Selig has to say for himself:
Any admission regarding the use of illegal performance-enhancing substances, no matter how casual, must be taken seriously. It is in the best interests of baseball for everyone, including players, to cooperate with Senator Mitchell in his investigation.
In hindsight, Giambi would have obviously done well to keep his mouth shut. Now, Bud has him by the balls—and it's hard to imagine how the Yankees' slugger is going to worm his way out of this one.
A dark day for honesty, methinks.
In an unrelated story, Selig has been contacted by Russian president Vladimir Putin regarding an open position in the Kremlin's PR department. More details to follow.
