Seattle Mariners Now Have Depth To Carry Them Into The Post-Season

The Seattle Mariners have the potential to have the best team in baseball. But there is that word "potential" that will keep them from that. Don't get me wrong though, I think the Mariners are going to the playoffs, they have the depth to carry this team through any injuries.

Just look at this team now that they have Ronny Cedeno and Garret Olson. Here's the scenarios for the Mariners if some of the players come down with injuries.

C. Jeff Clement- Kenji Johjima replaces him in an instant. Wladamir Balentein carries the full time duties at designated hitter.

1B. Russell Branyan- Replace Branyan with Bryan Lahair, Chris Shelton or even Mike Carp.

2B. Jose Lopez- Ronny Cedeno moves over to second and if Cedeno gets injures Reegie Corona gets the call to action.

SS. Yuniesky Betancourt- Ronny Cedeno covers Betancourt and Reegie Corona covers Cedeno.

3B. Adrian Beltre- Russell Branyan moves to third base, Chris Shelton, Mike Carp or Bryan Lahair cover first base while Branyan is on the move.

OF. Plenty of guys to cover them out there in the depths of Safeco Field. Ichiro Suzuki, Franklin Gutierrez, Wladamir Balentein and Mike Morse to name a few. A worst case scenario could mean Russell Branyan or Ronny Cedeno moves to the outfield.

DH. All of the Mariners offense can easily cover the task.

As for pitching I'll just name all of the pitchers, they have to many to name off the scenarios. This list includes players in Tacoma that could be called up in a jiffy.

1. Felix Hernandez
2. Erik Bedard
3. Brandon Morrow
4. Ryan Rowland-Smith
5. Garret Olson
6. Jarrod Washburn
7. Carlos Silva
8. Miguel Batista
9. Cesar Jimenez
10. Ryan Feierabend
11. Jose Lugo
12. Stephen Kahn

As for the bullpen they again have a variety of options:

David Aardsma
Roy Corcoran
Miguel Batista
Cesar Jimenez
Carlos Silva
Ryan Rowland-Smith
Brandon Morrow

As you can see the Seattle Mariners have a very strong team coming into 2009. Don't underestimate them this season.
