The UFC has just announced a huge light-heavyweight fight set to take place this summer.
According to MMAjunkie.com, former UFC light-heavyweight champ Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida will take on emerging contender Ryan "Darth" Bader at UFC on FOX 4, which is set to take place at Los Angeles' Staple Center on August 4th.
Though not yet confirmed, the fight is expected to be either the main event or co-main attraction of the evening. Also on the card is Hector Lombard, who will be making his UFC debut against Brian Stann.
Machida is looking to rebound from a devastating loss to current UFC light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones at UFC 140, in which he was submitted in the second round. That loss puts "The Dragon" at 1-3 in his past four fights. He desperately needs this win if he is to have any hope of reentering title contention.
Bader is coming off the biggest win of his career against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson at UFC 144. That victory put The Ultimate Fighter 8 winner on a two-fight win streak, effectively bouncing back from back-to-back losses to Jon Jones and Tito Ortiz.
If "Darth" Bader is victorious in this fight, it seems likely that he will be no more than one fight away from a title shot.
Machida, if victorious, will likely need a couple more convincing victories before he gets back into the title picture.
