WWE Extreme Rules 2012 Results: What's Next for Kane After Loss to Randy Orton?

Kane has had one of the most interesting WWE careers.

For those WWE fans lucky enough to witness Kane in the late 1990s and early 2000s, they saw how dominant he was. Throughout the years, he has been a workhorse for the WWE. Despite his commitment to the company and in-ring ability, Kane is only a two-time World Champion.

This past December, he returned with his mask back on. Since then, Kane has set his sights on two of the top superstars in the company.

He originally turned his attention on John Cena. Kane attempted to get Cena to "embrace the hate" and possibly turn him heel.

After weeks of vicious attacks on Cena, Kane lost to him in a match at Elimination Chamber.

Kane then started a feud with Randy Orton.

Before Kane returned with the mask, he lost to Orton in a street fight. After the match, Kane shook Orton's hand, which symbolized he was not a monster but more like a human. This was much of the reason for Kane's return with the mask.

Orton and Kane's rivalry has included a match at WrestleMania 28, which Kane won. The feud continued after WrestleMania, and Orton defeated Kane in a Falls Count Anywhere match at Extreme Rules.

Ultimately, Kane had significant wins against both Cena and Orton. He ended up losing the final matches in each feud but proved he can still deliver quality matches and terrorize his opponents.

After the loss to Orton at Extreme Rules, what is next for Kane?

Kane has done a nice job and made a significant impact over the last few months. He has become one of the top heels in the company again and could jump into the title picture.

CM Punk and Sheamus both successfully defended their titles at Extreme Rules. Both matches were WrestleMania rematches and that could mean they are moving on to another feud.

CM Punk defeated Chris Jericho to defend his WWE Championship for the second time. The WWE may look to go in a different direction or take a break from their feud and throw Kane in a feud with CM Punk.

This would be a fresh angle and a different obstacle that Punk must overcome.

Sheamus retained his World Heavyweight Championship by beating Daniel Bryan at Extreme Rules. The WWE could also put Kane in a feud with Sheamus, as he moves past his rivalry with Bryan.

If Kane is not bumped into the title picture, he could revisit his feud with Zack Ryder. This feud started when Kane was feuding with Cena. Ryder was a regular victim of Kane's attacks and their rivalry has been put off for a few months. The WWE could decide to try and give Ryder another push and Kane could be the one that puts him over.

If you look at the rest of the roster, there are not many superstars that make sense for Kane to start feuding with. It could be time to give Kane another run in the title scene. He is most likely nearing retirement and deserves one last title run before he does.
