Twelve College Football Helmets That Need a Makeover
As an Oregon fan, I embrace change when it comes to uniforms and helmets. Since I have been alive, Oregon has only gone from a design that had an interlocking U and O to the simple O on the side.
They have however added color variations of this design. There is green with yellow O, white with green O, black with yellow O, and yellow with green O.
When it debuted, there was no O on the side of the yellow helmet but there was one centered on the back. There are also the outlines of flames on the yellow helmet.
I was looking at some pictures of what people consider the worst and best uniforms and helmets in college football, and it made me think. I thought some of these helmets have not changed in years.
I am sure the fan bases love what they have and I may get some negative reactions, but here are some helmets that I would like to see.
In no particular order...
Always with the lightning. Yet you have this emblem that even has the lightning in it.
I like the dog more than the W. Although since Washington State switched to their cougar, doing the same might not fly with the dogs.
When Arkansas State had to switch from the Indians, they had to change their helmets. They went back to an older style. Here is the new red Wolves logo. I think it would look good.
Some schools make a single letter work, like Duke’s D or Hawaii H. Eastern Michigan: Fail. Even this logo is better.
The Tide has the players' numbers on the side, as if the names and huge numbers on the uniforms weren’t enough identification. Personally, I like the elephant.
Big red M, wow!! Anyone else think this looks a lot cooler?
Big train or just a P?
The United States Naval Academy helmets look a lot like Notre Dame's. Give me a goat.
I just like the bear logo more than the BU.
I like this better than just Ragin' Cajuns on the helmet.
Yeah I know this is one of those “classic look” ones. But I don’t think this would look half bad.
Eye of the Tiger. It would just look kinda cool.
