Before the West Bromwich Albion vs. Manchester United match, you couldn't help but think that it would be an easy victory for Manchester United. The match was made a lot easier for the Red Devils when Paul Robinson was sent off for the Baggies just before half time.
The decision by referee Rob Styles to send Robinson off was a bad one, there is no doubting that. That decision changed the match; it would have been hard enough for West Brom to get anything out of the match with 11 men let alone with only 10 men.
Both Paul Robinson and Manchester United's Ji-Sung Park slid into a 50/50 challenge and it was Park who was left worse off. It wasn't a malicious challenge by Robinson and it wasn't a two-footed challenge with studs up. It was a 50/50 challenge and both players must have known that there was a chance that one of them would have come off worse.
The other Manchester United players looked surprised with the harsh decision and Ryan Giggs tried to comfort Robinson by putting his arm around him.
My point is that it wasn't the first time that Robinson has been sent off, as he has had nine red cards in his career and has been shown quite a few yellow cards.
Robinson once even broke a Birmingham City player's jaw during a match, and he is a passionate player who will go into tackles that he probably won't win.
Has this reputation earned him the red card?
