NFL Draft Order 2012: How Cowboys and Buccaneers Trades Shake Up Round 2

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Last night's flurry of trade activity between the No. 3 and No. 7 pick changed the entire scope of the draft.

And, naturally, there was another flurry of activity late in the round.

Two trades in particular shook up the draft, though, and that distinction belongs to the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dallas Cowboys

Big D was reportedly hot on the tail of Alabama safety Mark Barron throughout much of the draft process, but when Dallas saw an opportunity to move up the board, it selected LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne instead.

The on-field impact is huge, and the draft impact is pretty big as well.

The Rams were able to move down in the draft for the second time while acquiring another second-round pick—they now own three selections in the first 13 picks of tonight's second round.

St. Louis selected Michael Brockers at No. 14—a top-10 talent—and can immediately help its ballclub early tonight.

Dallas, meanwhile, turned a weakness into a strength by moving up the board.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs were the team left out to dry by Cleveland's move to No. 3, and once they missed on Trent Richardson, they decided to move down the board to No. 7.

They proceeded to reach for Mark Barron (talent-wise, not value-wise) with their pick, but he's expected to be a starter.

If you know anything of new coach Greg Schiano, you know how much he wants an all-purpose running back, and losing out on Richardson bothered him.

So, the Bucs decided to come back into the first round for Doug Martin, sending the Broncos down in the process.

The trade was the second for Denver and it wound not making a first-round pick at all. The Broncos only have two second-rounders to show for it, although they could land huge value with their first pick at No. 36 overall.

Tampa Bay didn't get what it wanted, but it got what it needed.
