Why Brady Hoke's Recruiting Buzz Isn't as Impressive as It Seems

Michigan's a near-mortal lock to have a Top 10 recruiting class come February. I'd put decent money on Top Five. But is this the underpinning of the best recruiting class in the nation? That I don't really believe.

Look, the fact that Michigan's even up this far at this point means Brady Hoke is doing things right, and I don't mean to cast aspersions on his recruiting ability. "Can mid-major coach Brady Hoke recruit" was a serious question when he was hired, and he's answering that question pretty decisively.

My main opposition here is the "No. 1" next to Michigan's class in basically every list at this point. It's common knowledge that recruiting rankings by themselves don't win championships, so if signing day is still over nine months away, let's reeeeally dial down the optimism, right?
