Position battles won't necessarily be at a premium as Michigan State plays its annual spring game Saturday, but that doesn't mean there aren't a few that require some attention.

The biggest has been forced by the sprained knee quarterback Andrew Maxwell suffered more than a week ago. Coach Mark Dantonio confirmed Tuesday that Maxwell will not play Saturday. That means freshman Connor Cook will get almost all of the reps Saturday and has at least opened the door slightly to a competition under center when fall practice begins.
