Amanda Lucas and the 5 Most Random MMA Enthusiasts
TapouT and Affliction shirts are the usual telltale signs of a MMA enthusiast — a far cry from galactic storm troopers or fine dining.
But if this sport has taught me one thing it's that whether you're the daughter of the creator of the biggest science fiction movie franchise in history or the wife of a world renowned chef, anyone can fall in love with MMA.
Some unlikely fans are drawn into the sport so much that they've actually stepped up and competed inside the cage — and with a ton of success.
Here are five of the most random MMA enthusiasts supporting the sport today.
5. Kevin James
For long time fans of the sport, Hollywood funny man Kevin James has been one of the most outspoken celebrity supporters of MMA for over a decade.
Having trained in the sport alongside such greats as UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, James has taken his fanaticism to another level, integrating MMA into his television and film endeavors.
In a 2006 episode of The King of Queens, UFC stars Rampage Jackson, Dan Henderson and others were featured opposite the comedic leading man.
James will make his own Octagon debut of sorts as he is set to star in a watered-down, campy version of Warrior, titled Here Comes the Boom, which will be released in July.
4. Mandy Moore
Another random yet long time MMA fan is the lovely singer turned actress Mandy Moore.
Surprisingly, Moore has had a lot of involvement with the sport, having attended many UFC events in the past.
After the UFC-FOX partnership was announced, the promotion quickly turned to one of its biggest celebrity fans to do some promotional work to hype up the November heavyweight battle between Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez, which can be viewed on this slide.
The ad turned out well, but as for Moore's fight prediction... not so much.
3. Ed O'Neill
Modern Family and Married... with Children star Ed O'Neill looks like your typically harmless, affable television dad.
But underneath his Al Bundy exterior is an avid MMA fan who takes the sport very seriously. A long time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, O'Neill earned his black belt in 2007.
Often stating that earning his black belt was one of the greatest achievements in his life, O'Neill is a serious MMA enthusiast.
2. Ottavia Bourdain
Traveling the world and eating exotic foods just doesn't cut it for this tough reality television star's wife.
She is married to renowned chef and travel enthusiast Anthony Bourdain of No Reservations fame. While her husband spends his time crossing the globe and eating fancy dinners, Ottavia spends her days kicking butt and taking names.
Training alongside some top level competitors at the Renzo Gracie Academy, Ottavia is passionate about the sport as both a fan and an athlete.
1. Amanda Lucas
Trading in the lightsabers and Jedi robes for a pair of MMA gloves, Amanda Lucas is one of the most unlikely competitors in the sport today.
Daughter of Star Wars creator George Lucas, Amanda is a tough submission ace, rattling off four straight wins since losing in her pro debut back in 2008.
Currently the reigning DEEP Openweight Women's champion, the force is certainly with this tough cookie every time she enters the ring.
