2012 USL PRO Power Rankings: Week 3

In this week's USL PRO Power Rankings, the Lions of Orlando City remain at the top of the pack after cruising to their third-straight victory. Chasing them are the Rochester Rhinos, who are running a win streak of their own. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Blues slink down to the bottom after playing another week of uninspired soccer.

Movers and shakers galore. There is plenty in Bleacher Report's USL PRO Power Rankings.

 

1. Orlando City

Adrian Heath's Orlando City continued their hot start to the season, pulling away late in the second half to defeat the Richmond Kickers 2-0 at City Stadium in Richmond, Va.

Ian Fuller opened the scoring in the 61st minute while Anthony Pulis closed the door shut on the home side with an 89th minute penalty conversion.

The Lions roar back into action on Saturday, Apr. 28 when they take on the Kickers at the Citrus Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

 

2. Rochester Rhinos

If there is one team that knows how to challenge Orlando City for top honors in USL PRO, it's Jesse Myers's Rochester Rhinos, who also left late to defeat the Los Angeles Blues 2-0 at Titan Stadium on the campus of California State University, Fullerton.

Andrew Hoxie scored in the 50th minute for the Rhinos, while J.C. Banks closed the deal in the 56th minute of play.

Up next for Rochester is a match with the Dayton Dutch Lions at Careflight Field in Springboro, Ohio. Kickoff is scheduled for Apr. 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

3. Harrisburg City Islanders

Bill Becher's Harrisburg City Islanders opened their 2012 USL PRO season with a 2-1 victory over the Charlotte Eagles. Andrew Welker opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, while J.T. Noone recorded the game-winner in the 51st minute of play.

Harrisburg continued their season with a scoreless draw against the Wilmington Hammerheads at Legion Stadium in Wilmington, Del.

Up next for the City Islanders is a contest with the Charlotte Eagles at the Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg, Penn. Kickoff is scheduled for May 4 at 7 p.m. ET.

 

4. Charleston Battery

Michael Anhaeuser's Charleston Battery were off this week.

The Battery continue their season on Apr. 27 when they face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

 

5. Wilmington Hammerheads

David Irving's Wilmington Hammerheads could only manage a scoreless draw against the Harrisburg City Islanders at Legion Stadium. They look to bounce back when they face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Apr. 28. Kickoff at Legion Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

 

6. Richmond Kickers

Leigh Cowlishaw's Richmond Kickers were routed 2-0 by Orlando City at City Stadium. They get another chance at stopping the Lions on Apr. 28 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

7. Pittsburgh Riverhounds

Justin Evans's Pittsburgh Riverhounds defeated the Dayton Dutch Lions 2-0 at Chartiers Valley High School in Bridgeville, Pa. Seth C'deBaca opened the scoring in the 17th minute while Agustin Nunez closed the deal in the 81st minute of play.

The Riverhounds continue their year on Apr. 28 against the Wilmington Hammerheads. Kickoff at Legion Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

 

8. Antigua Barracuda

Tom Curtis's Antigua Barracuda FC were off this week.

Up next for Antigua Barracuda are a couple matches against the Charlotte Eagles at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in St. John's. Kickoff for the Apr. 26 match is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, while the Apr. 28 contest is set for 4:30 p.m. ET.

 

9. Charlotte Eagles

Mark Steffens's Charlotte Eagles continued their 2012 season on Apr. 20 when they hosted the Harrisburg City Islanders at Charlotte Christian Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.

Mauricio Salles scored in the 35th minute for the Eagles, but they were unable to come back and were defeated, 2-1.

Charlotte continue their season with a set of matches against Antigua Barracuda FC at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda. Kickoff for the Apr. 26 match is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, while the Apr. 28 contest is set for 4:30 p.m. ET.

 

10. Dayton Dutch Lions

Ivar van Dinteren's Dayton Dutch Lions dropped yet another match, a 2-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. They continue their season on Apr. 28 against the Rochester Rhinos. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

 

11. Los Angeles Blues

Charlie Naimo's Los Angeles Blues can't score in, let alone win, contests as they fell 2-0 to the  Rochester Rhinos at Titan Stadium. The Blues continue their season with two matches against the Wilmington Hammerheads. Kickoff for the May 4 contest will take place at a time and location to be determined. The May 6 contest is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET and will be played at Titan Stadium.
