The Duke Blue Devils pulled out a win, a historic win, from the jaws of defeat over conference rival North Carolina State. The victory was Coach Mike Krzyzewski's 800th career win in 33rd season. He becomes just the sixth coach to win 800 games.
Trailing by 13 points with just over 12 minutes left in the game, the Blue Devils went on a run that ended with a one point victory. Senior, DeMarcus Nelson, hit two free throws with 1:01 remaining to give Duke a one point lead. However, no one would score another basket from that point and Duke ended a two game road losing streak.
Nelson and sophomore Jon Scheyer both scored 19 points to lead the Blue Devils (25-3, 12-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), to their third straight win.
"N.C. State really outplayed us the whole game except for the last eight minutes," Nelson said. "Everything was going for them, but the thing about it is, we pulled together as a team...It just clicked for us. In the last eight minutes, we started making the plays that we needed to win."
Point guard Greg Paulus scored 15 points and hit two threes during the comeback, The Blue Devils hit five three-pointers in the final seven and a half minutes and Kyle Singler and Gerald Henderson had 12 points apiece, as Duke had a balanced attack.
Up next for the Blue Devils is a game at Virginia on March 5th, and then a show down at home with UNC March 8th. The NC State Wolfpack have one game remaining at Wake Forest on March 8th.
