UFC 145 Results: Clements Gets Decision Win in UFC Debut
Veteran Ontario fighter Chris Clements made a successful debut in the UFC tonight with a gritty and crafty split decision win over Keith Wisniewski. Clements got taken down and had trouble on the mat early in the bout, but after a bit of a premature stand up by the referee, he was able to land some damaging shots. The round ended with a crafty spinning back kick from Clements that dropped Wisniewski and hurt him in the process. Wisniewski hung on and even attempted a triangle choke at the end of an action packed round one.
The action stayed hot in the second with each fighter throwing and landing to start before Wisniewski got a trip takedown to quick side control on Clements. Clements defended well on the ground and made it back up to his feet to throw a few head-hunting shots before locking in tight again. Wisniewski scored another take down and took Clements' back with a rear naked choke.
Clements wriggled and defended the choke hard before looking up at the screen and using the view to land some vicious back elbows on his foe to end the round. The quick elbow strike barrage did some damage to Wisniewski.
The final frame saw Clements continue to mix up and dominate with his striking attack as he landed knees in tight, punches, another spinning back kick. Clements ended the fight with elbows and body shots that hurt and floored Wisniewski at the very end of the fight.
It was a tough fight, and an entertaining one, and Clements got the win via 29-28, 28-29, 30-27 scores.
The 36-year-old is now 11-4 in MMA, 1-0 UFC and extends his win streak to five fights.
