Husker News and Notes for 1/25/09
Husker News and Notes:
Hey Bob, 2009 Recruit Andrew Green is coming to Nebraska next year.
He is still heading to Nebraska, right?
“Yes, sir,” the defensive back from San Antonio said.
Profile on Mike Ekeler and John Papuchis:
Together, they add a youthful element to the defensive coaching staff. Ekeler, 37, coaches linebackers. Papuchis, 30, directs the ends and plays a coordinating role in special teams.
Both first-timers have been a hit on the road, developing into two of the Huskers’ most dynamic recruiters as signing day approaches Feb. 4.
“I’ve learned a lot, I think, about what it takes to be successful as a fulltime coach,” Papuchis said. “Just balancing it all is probably most difficult. But from the beginning, things were made pretty easy for me, because Bo’s always been a great mentor.”
Joe Ganz is playing the role of the underdog in the NFL Draft:
Ganz obviously has become accustomed to underdog status, and here we go again. Granted, nobody expects Nebraska’s 2008 starting quarterback to be a first-round NFL draft pick April 25-26, or even a first-day selection.
But no all-star game invitations? No NFL Combine invite? For a quarterback who ranked 14th nationally in passing efficiency, one spot ahead of Georgia’s Matthew Stafford, a projected top-five selection?
Who says ESPN hates Nebraska? They rank the Huskers fifth in their ‘prestige rankings.’
