FINAL from Knoxville: Orange 17, White 14. Spring practice has officially come to a close for the Vols. A wrap-up story with winners and losers is coming up shortly here on Bleacher Report.
Bray's pass on fourth down sails out of bounds and the Orange team is going to hold on to win the Orange & White Game.
Cody Blanc with a first down on third and seven gets the White team across midfield. Blanc has played well is his first spring game.
Regardless of how this ends, this is great experience for the first-team offense. A chance to run the two-minute drill with something on the line.
Brodus misses a field goal from 27 yards. The White team is still alive for the steak dinner. Tyler Bray will have 2:05 left and one timeout from their own 20.
A steak dinner is the reward for the winner this afternoon. The Orange team is trying to seal it up right now. Third down conversion for the Orange on a pass from Page to Alex Ellis. Now Justin Worley comes back in at quarterback.
Redshirt Sophomore Tyler Page now in at quarterback for the Orange team replacing Worley. This would have been true Freshman Nathan Peterman, but he is injured and not available today.
Bray mishandles the snap on third and one. The White team has to punt it away. Orange leads 17-14 with 6:46 left to play.
Devrin Young bounces a carry outside for 11 yards and a first down. I haven't been overly impressed with the first-team offensive line's push up the middle, but Tennessee has done a nice job getting to the outside.
37-yard FIELD GOAL by Derrick Brodus to give the Orange a 17-14 lead.
End of the third quarter in Knoxville. Score is tied at 14, but the Orange team is threatening to regain the lead.
The Orange team makes a strong push down the field, but stalls out near the 30-yard line. Jacob Carter makes a good catch on fourth down to pick up the first down. Three more catches for Carter on this drive.
Eleven plays on that scoring drive. Took 5:46 off the clock to start the quarter.
Good, long drive for the White team ends in a Bray to Mychal Rivera 1-yard TOUCHDOWN. Nice play fake to Neal and Rivera was wide open on the bootleg. Game tied up at 14.
Linebacker Herman Lathers in on the last stop for the Vols. Lathers missed all of last season with multiple injuries. Would be huge for the Tennessee defense if Lathers is able to play this fall.
Tyler Bray and the White team will have the ball to start the third quarter. The Orange team leads 14-7.
Defensive halftime statistics: Justin Coleman leads with seven tackles, Brian Randolph, Rod Wilks, Jaron Toney, and John Propst each have four. Propst had the lone interception. Randolph and Geraldo Orta each recovered fumbles.
Official halftime statistics: Tyler Bray is 7-14 for 101 yards, Justin Worley is 11-18 for 109 yards and 1 interception. Marlin Lane leads with 103 yards rushing and two touchdowns, Raijon Neal with 23 yards on five carries, Tom Smith has 15 yards on five carries and a fumble, and Devrin Young has three carries for 14 yards. Da'Rick Rogers is the leading receiver with 64 yards on three receptions, Brendan Downs has three catches for 37 yards, Lane with three receptions for 32 yards, Cody Blanc has one catch for 17 yards, Young with 15 yards on two catches, and Vincent Dallas has one reception for 13 yards.
Sophomore running back Marlin Lane is your star of the first half. Seven carries for 104 yards and two touchdowns, a 16-yard reception, and a 43-yard kickoff return through the first two quarters. Lane is battling Raijon Neal for the starting running back spot, and making a strong case for himself so far today.
HALFTIME: Orange 14, White 7. We started with fireworks, and ended with fireworks on the Lane touchdown.
Marlin Lane with another huge play. A simple draw right before the half and Lane takes it to the house from 39 yards out for the Orange TOUCHDOWN. 14-7 Orange team.
Michael Palardy MISSES the 33-yard field goal. The Vols have struggled in that department the last couple seasons.
Devrin Young making his presence felt on this drive for the White. A pair of touches, one rushing and one receiving, results in two first downs.
Worley, just trying to get rid of the ball, tosses it into the hands of John Propst. Terrible decision by the Sophomore. Turnovers now on three straight possessions.
