Though just about every NFL analyst, writer and fan assumed Andrew Luck would be lining up under center for the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, general manager Ryan Grigson and his staff kept their plans under wrap—until today.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Colts have notified Luck that he will be the top pick in this year's draft and the successor to Peyton Manning.

The decision ends months of (perhaps totally unwarranted) speculation, particularly by those who have suggested that Baylor's Robert Griffin III may have been creeping up on Luck's status as top pick. Griffin is considered a lock to be taken second by the Washington Redskins, who gave up a massive haul of draft picks to the St. Louis Rams to move up to that spot.
