2012 USL PRO Power Rankings: Week 2

In this week's United Soccer League Professional Division Power Rankings, the Lions of Orlando City remain on top after a huge win over the Wilmington Hammerheads. Meanwhile, the Rochester Rhinos make their move at Orlando after a road victory in Southern California.

Movers. Shakers. And goals. We have it all in Week 2's USL PRO Power Rankings on Bleacher Report and the View from Victoria Street.

 

1. Orlando City

You all know Manchester United ace striker Wayne Rooney, but have you heard of his brother John? That's right, former New York Red Bull John Rooney was at it again for Adrian Heath's Orlando City, recording a brace in the ninth and 41st minutes en route to an emphatic 4-1 victory over the Wilmington Hammerheads at the Citrus Bowl.

Also scoring for the Lions were Rob Valentino in the 54th minute and Dennis Chin in the 65th minute of play.

Orlando continue their season on Saturday, Apr. 21, when they take on the Richmond Kickers at City Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

 

2. Rochester Rhinos

Jesse Myers's Rochester Rhinos scratched and clawed their way to a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Blues on Saturday at Titan Stadium on the campus of California State University Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif.

Tyler Rosenlund scored the game-winner for the Rhinos, who will take on the Blues again on Friday, Apr. 20 at Titan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET.

 

Orlando City 4-1 Wilmington Hammerheads

3. Richmond Kickers

Leigh Cowlishaw's Richmond Kickers exacted payback on the Charleston Battery in a 2-1 win at Blackbaud Stadium. Stanley Nyazama evened the match in the 63rd minute before Sascha Gorres recorded the game-winner in the 90th minute of play.

Richmond's next assignment: stopping red-hot Orlando City at City Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for Apr. 21 at 7 p.m. ET.

 

4. Wilmington Hammerheads

David Irving's Wilmington Hammerheads were like lambs to the slaughter, as they were dismantled 4-1 by Orlando City at the Citrus Bowl. Bryce Taylor scored the only goal for the Hammers in the 56th minute of play.

Wilmington will look to bounce back when they host the Harrisburg City Islanders at Legion Stadium in Wilmington, DE. Kickoff is scheduled for Apr. 21 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

 

5. Charleston Battery

It was a hit-and-miss weekend for Michael Anhaeuser's Charleston Battery, who split a weekend of matches.

On Apr. 14, they lost to the Richmond Kickers by the score of 2-1. Nicki Patterson scored for the Battery in the 19th minute.

Charleston bounced back on Apr. 17, shutting out the Charlotte Eagles 3-0. Tony Donatelli opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of play before goals from Ryan Richter in the 44th minute and J.C. Mack III in the 86th minute sealed all three points.

The Battery continue their season on Apr. 27 when they face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

 

6. Harrisburg City Islanders

Bill Becher's Harrisburg City Islanders were off this week.

Harrisburgh open up the 2012 season on Apr. 20 against the Charlotte Eagles. Kickoff at Charlotte Christian Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

 

7. Antigua Barracuda

Tom Curtis' Antigua Barracuda FC were off this week.

Up next for Antigua Barracuda is a couple of matches against the Charlotte Eagles at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in St. John's. Kickoff for the Apr. 26 match is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, while the Apr. 28 contest is set for 4:30 p.m. ET.

 

8. Pittsburgh Riverhounds

Justin Evans's Pittsburgh Riverhounds were off this week.

The Riverhounds return to action on Apr. 21 when they host the Dayton Dutch Lions. Kickoff at Chartiers Valley High School is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

 

9. Los Angeles Blues

Charlie Naimo's Los Angeles Blues opened their season in disappointing fashion, losing to the Rochester Rhinos 1-0.

They get another crack at Rochester on Friday, Apr. 20 at Titan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET.

 

10. Dayton Dutch Lions

Ivar van Dinteren's Dayton Dutch Lions opened their 2012 season with a scoreless draw against the Charlotte Eagles.

Dayton continue their campaign on Apr. 21 when they take on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Chartiers Valley High School in Bridgeville, Pa. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

 

11. Charlotte Eagles

It has been a disappointing start to the season for Mark Steffens's Charlotte Eagles. After a scoreless draw against the Dayton Dutch Lions, the Eagles were roasted by the Charleston Battery to the tune of 3-0.

Up next for Charlotte is a set of matches with Antigua Barracuda FC at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda. Kickoff for the Apr. 26 match is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, while the Apr. 28 contest is set for 4:30 p.m. ET.
