Jim Schwartz is set to make his second hire of the offseason. Schwartz hired former Rams head coach Scott Linehan on Friday.

Linehan was fired as the Rams' head coach after his team got off to an 0-4 start in 2008. Linehan was the Rams' head coach from 2006-08. He previously ran the Miami Dolphins' offense in 2005 and was the Minnesota Vikings' offensive coordinator from 2002-04.

Linehan had interviewed for the 49ers' offensive coordinator position earlier this year, but after he was brought in for a second interview for the spot, he turned down the offer.

He is the second former Rams head coach to run the Lions offense in the last three years. The Lions fired ex-Rams head coach Mike Martz after the 2006-07 season.

Linehan replaces Jim Colletto, who was demoted to offensive line coach after he was in charge off the Lions' offense during a historically awful 0-16 season.

The Lions ranked 30th in total offense in '08 and ranked 27th in points scored.

In 2005, when Linehan was offensive coordinator for the Dolphins, they ranked in the top 15 in total offense, as well as top 15 in pass yards, rushing yards, and points scored.

The Lions have a young core of talent for Linehan to build around. WR Calvin Johnson is one of the top three talents in the league, and RB Kevin Smith could be a perennial 1,500-yard rusher if given the opportunity.
