Penn State Lady Lions head coach Coquese Washington has announced that she will remain at Penn State.

On April 12, the Detroit News reported that sources had the Big Ten coach of the year interviewing for the vacant head coaching job at the University of Michigan, but the Flint native announced that she will not return to her home state in a press conference Monday afternoon.

Washington was one of several figures at Penn State that helped push the university forward following the Jerry Sandusky scandal and the death of legendary football coach Joe Paterno.

Washington coached the Lady Lions to a 26-7 overall record and Big Ten Championship in 2011-12, including a 13-3 conference record. The Lady Lions made it to the Sweet 16 where they were beaten by UCONN 77-59.

Penn State Ranked Ninth in Final ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll, the highest final ranking since 2004.

Leading scorers Alex Bentley and Maggie Lucas will both return next year as well.
