Does Alexander Ovechkin Deserve the Number Eight over Mike Komisarek?

Charles L. GareCorrespondent IJanuary 23, 2009

If we look at this from the perspective of who has been in the NHL the longest, the number eight should belong to Komisarek over Ovechkin.

Maybe it's a silly thing, but I feel because of time played and the fact that this All-Star game is in Montreal's Bell Centre, that should have been taken into consideration.

I also know for a fact that Mike, being the gentlemen he is, decided to let O.V. have it.

I don't understand how the league works, exactly because it seems like Ovechkin must have hollered loud and long to get the eight over Mike. I know also it is only a show at midseason and basically who cares, right? People have already lost interest.

But because of the year of the Canadiens, and because it is also in Montreal the first time since 1993—the last time the Habs won the Cup, by the way.

Now, I'm not gazing into the future and saying that they will win the Cup this year. I really hope they do—but that is not the point here.

Komisarek deserves that number eight over Ovechkin and it is as simple as that.

I know also it won't be changed, because the squeaky wheel always gets the grease—and obviously that loud squeak came out of Washington.
