Do you smell that? Is it smoke?
Jerry Jones' hand must have caught fire after putting the final stamp on Flozell Adams’ new contract. The 33-year-old Adams received a six-year $43 million deal, with a $15 million signing bonus.
With Adams taken care of, the Cowboys now turn their attention to Marion "The Barbarian" Barber, who has also received an offer from the Cowboys.
This offer, however, does not compare to Flozell’s new contract. The Cowboys have proposed a one-year tender of $2.562 million, which means that Barber can still seek a better deal, but Dallas has the right to match any offer within seven days.
Still, it is highly unlikely that Dallas will match an offer for Barber. Instead, they’ll take the first and third round picks surrendered by the team ultimately signing him.
With these additional picks, Jerry can then draft rookie stand-out Darren McFadden.

Wow, that's a lot of cash to a 33-year old lineman, but when you factor in that it was going to cost a lot to find a quality replacement it's not too bad. Certainly, he's worth more to the Cowboys than he is to anyone else. Still, it's a short-term move that makes it clear that Jerry wants to make sure that Wade has no excuses for any early playoff departures in 2008.
