Mike Sanford Receives Contract Extension

Mike Sanford is getting a pay raise after winning five games this past year. Some may say, "So what, it was only five games?" but in Sanford’s first three years at UNLV we won six total games. The team was one win away from bowl eligibility facing a hapless San Diego State team, but that did not happen.
Sanford looks to have his players in place and ready to bring Vegas from the cellar of the MWC to the middle of the pack. His new contract is worth $425,000 per year—$150,000 in base pay and $137,500 each for media and public appearances. Not sure what those media and public appearances are because $137,500 per appearance seems hefty.

His deal also includes a reasonable buyout of $225,000, and his bonuses for bowl appearances doubled in this deal.

In 2009, Sanford will look to become bowl eligible for the first time during his tenure. It would be UNLV's first time since they won six games in 2003.

Looks like Sanford is going to be at UNLV through 2012.
