MMA: Judging by Their Website, Strikeforce Won't Be Alive Much Longer

Matt SaccaroJun 4, 2018

The (overly)simplified Strikeforce website is bad on an epic scale. So bad, in fact, that you must seriously wonder what Zuffa has in store for them.

The website is now what seems to be a word document that was copied and pasted onto the siteโ€”a superlative example of somebody not giving an F.

This does not bode well for the future of Strikeforce.

Always seen as the B-league of MMA (or the Luigi to the UFC's Mario if you prefer nerdier terms) Strikeforce nevertheless had a cult following among UFC/Zuffa hatersโ€”that was until Zuffa purchased the company in March 2011.

Since then, there was endless speculation on MMA forums, message boards and websites as to what Zuffa would do with their new brand.ย

Some proclaimed the end to be nigh when Strikeforce's high-profile fighters such as Nick Diaz, Alistair Overeem, and Cung Le were sent to the UFC. However, the San Jose based organization still lived on.ย

But now, things seem different.ย

UFC president Dana White has explicitly vented his frustration with Strikeforce's partners, Showtime, and has proclaimed that his involvement with the Strikeforce product is done.

So does the dramatic scaling down of the Strikeforce website really mean it's finally the end of the road for Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker's noble experiment?

It's impossible to say, but it doesn't look good. Why would such an awful, outdated, and quite frankly lazy website be allowed to see the light of day if Zuffa really cared about the brand?

Fortunately for Strikeforce fans, the Strikeforce/MMA section of Showtime's official website is still in the 21st century.

However, it's scary and unfortunate to think that Strikeforceโ€”long a staple of the MMA worldโ€”could soon be gone, ingloriously cast away on the ash heap of MMA history along with the IFL, Affliction and EliteXC.
